The Municipal Library is located at the Casa Frau Cultural Center in Piazza del Popolo.
It has a collection of nearly 8,000 volumes, including fiction, essays, encyclopedias, and dictionaries.
Since it is very popular with young people, a section entirely dedicated to them has been created: Fiction and Popularization for children aged 0 to 15.
”The Mission of a public library is indicated in the IFLA/UNESCO Manifesto 1994, which clearly expresses the right of every citizen to develop their full potential, the right to free and open access to information, based on equal conditions of access for all, regardless of age, race, sex, religious, national, cultural background, language, social conditions, personal abilities, and skills. The International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) also defines the mission of library services: "Through a wide choice of materials and activities, public libraries offer local access to knowledge, are an essential condition for lifelong learning, independent decision-making, and the cultural development of individuals and social groups [...]. Public libraries have a particular responsibility for encouraging the process of learning to read and for promoting books and other materials for all."
The Municipal Library of Pula, located within the “Casa Frau” Cultural Centre, is the active hub of socio-cultural life, an information centre, promoter of reading, sharing and exploration.
Heritage: The library has a constantly updated documentary heritage consisting of approximately 10,000 volumes including books and electronic resources (DVDs).
The books on the shelves are divided by discipline and catalogued according to library science criteria. They are placed on the shelves divided by scientific sector according to the numbering and heading indicated in the Dewey Decimal Classification.
The main services offered by the Library: home lending, consultation, reading, on-site study, access to the catalogue, inter-system and inter-library lending, bibliographic consultancy and research, consultation of catalogues, collections and valuable volumes.
The office offers a small space equipped for reading and studying your own documentation, with a computer station available by reservation only.
Consultation of the bibliographic and documentary heritage takes place directly and immediately by the user.
The library has a small space for children and young people that is used for activities and/or for caregiver/child readings.
Library loan: In addition to consulting library materials, both on-site and off-site, you can borrow library books by requesting a special card, which is issued upon presentation of a valid ID (minors require a parental ID).
The service, completely free, allows each member to borrow up to 5 books at a time, for a period of thirty days, extendable unless the same book has been requested by other users. It is also possible to borrow 3 DVDs, for a maximum of one week.
Valuable works, volumes, and magazines belonging to the local section are excluded from lending.
The entire library collection can be consulted during public opening hours, and books can be borrowed.
The loan is free and available to any citizen regardless of age or geographic origin.
The loan must be completed by returning the material within the allotted period. If no reservations have been made by other users, it can be renewed for a further period. If a document is already on loan, the user can request a reservation. Users can also independently check the available books in all libraries participating in the "Bibliosar" Library System at: https://opac.regione.sardegna.it/SebinaOpac/.do
In the library, you can find a variety of information and research support, including through the multimedia station available to the public.
You can suggest purchases and initiatives to be organized. You can participate in events and activities promoted by the library.
The library is equipped with a Regulation and of a Service Card.
Furthermore, the compilation of the customer satisfaction to quantify the degree of user satisfaction.
It also adopts the complaints handling policy inspired by fair treatment of the users who use the service.
